Very Large Greek Terracotta Gnathian Trefoil Oinochoe
Item Description
C. 4th century BC
A nice example of a black metallic glazed oinochoe with a trefoil mouth, an angular strap handle and a bulbous body. It features various bands of decoration to the neck, consisting of white ovolo pattern and grape vine and trendil motifs, in orange and white slip.
The name Gnathian ware comes from the city of Gnathia which it is named after.
Restoration to rim with some scratch marks to body otherwise a very large piece with good strong colour.
