C. 3rd-4th century AD
A nice example of a Roman oil lamp decorated with two fish in profile facing each other with fleurons between. The fish, is a symbol of Christianity, known as Ichthys or ΙΧΘΥC in Greek, stands for ‘Jesus Christ, son of God, Saviour’. It has a lug handle to the back, a rounded volute nozzle, with ropework pattern to shoulders.
Of a nice style with good detail and intact.
