Roman Samian Ware Terracotta Dish With Potters’ Name
Item Description
C. 1st-2nd Century AD
A nice example of a terra sigillata or samian ware dish with an orange/red slip, decorated with incised concentric bands to the interior. It features an impressed potters’ name to centre and sits on a small ring foot.
Although a chipped and amateur repair to edge, it has good detail to potter’s name and good glaze.
Provenance: Old label to base, found London. Mark Lane Collection, 1930’s.
