Roman Bronze Swimming Duck Brooch
Item Description
C. 2nd century AD
A nice example of a plain Roman bronze swimming duck brooch. It has slightly curved, hollow-cast body, with two deep grooves on each side indicating wings and a piercing through the tail which serves as a head loop.
Edge of one wing is slightly bent otherwise intact and in excellent condition with some earthy surface deposits and a nice even green patina with original pin still intact.
Provenance: Manchester Collection, collected in the 1990’s.
