Amethyst is a violet macrocrystalline variety of the mineral Quartz, as the size of the individual grains or crystals are distinguishable with the naked eye.  Quartz makes up approximately 12% of the earth’s crust and is the most abundant single mineral on earth.

Amethyst is said to have some healing properties and a soothing and relaxing effect. It is also thought to be an aid for clearing negative energy and promotes healthy sleep habits.
