Medieval Bronze Seal Ring With Fleur de Lys

Item Description

C. 15th century

A nice Medieval bronze seal ring with a plain band and an oval bezel, engraved with a merchants mark of a fleur de lys. Seal rings took over from seal matrices as being the most convenient way of making an impression in hot wax.  The wax impression attached to documents, letters etc, ensured that it would arrive at its destination unopened and unread.

Fine example with good engravings.

Provenance: Ex Thomas Collection, collected in 1980’s-1990’s.

Found Evesham.
