Greek South Italian Terracotta Gnathian Skyphos

C. 4th century BC
A south Italian Gnathian twin handled black ware skyphos, with a tapering body and small foot. It features a band of white painted ovolo decoration to the rim, bordered by two incised parallel lines, and a row of pale orange painted dots below. The body is also decorated with a grapevine and trendil motif in orange and white, with the other side depicting a band of white stylised grapevine motif to the rim.
Although cracked it has good colour and detail with some earthy surface deposits.
Provenance; Ex H. N. Collection, collected 1980’s-90’s.
