Greek Apulian Terracotta Black-Glazed Guttus With Medusa
Item Description
C. 4th-3rd century BC
A beautiful black-glazed terracotta guttus with vertical ribs around the perimeter and a single loop handle at a right angle to the high angled spout. Decorated with the head of Medusa on the upper centre of the reservoir within a concentric circle. A guttus was used to store precious oil to fill oil lamps.
Chip to base rim with good detail, a nice glaze and in good condition.
Provenance: Ex M. O. Collection, collected in the 1990’s.
