Egyptian Faience Amulet of Horus As Falcon

Item Description

C. 664-525 BC – 26th Dynasty –  Late Period

A small blue glazed amulet of Hours as falcon, with wings are tucked neatly against the body and seated on a plinth. He is depicted wearing a double crown, a royal crown that symbolizes the union of Lower and Upper Egypt.

Although there is a small chip to the top of the double crown, it is a nice piece with good detail.

Provenance: Thomas Allworthy (died 1973) thence by decent to the last owner. Allworthy was a collector of antiquity who sold a small number of pieces at Sotheby’s 19th May 1956.
