Egyptian Black Hardstone Plaque With Hieroglyphs

Item Description

C. 1570-1070 BC -New Kingdom Period

A nice black hardstone plaque decorated with hieroglyphs to both sides and pierced horizontally for suspension. One side features a bird (possibly a goose) to the top left corner with a ripple of water and comb below. To the right there is the feather of Maat with another hieroglyph. The other side features a seated figure, a ripple of water and other various hieroglyphs.

Small chip to edge otherwise good clear hieroglyphs and in very good condition.

Provenance: Walter Thomas Gaze Cooper (1895-1980) thence by decent.
