Bronze Age Socketed Axe – Breton Type
Item Description
C. 800-600 BC
A cast bronze socketed Breton type axe, with a square-sectioned mouth, a straight cutting edge, and loop above the mouth. It was moulded hollow, as the wooden half would have been inserted inside the socket.
Although slightly damaged, it is an interesting piece. Complete with old collectors ticket.
Provenance: From the estate of Philip Allen, 1938-2022.
