Bronze Age Palstave Axe Head

C. 1400 BC

A nice Bronze axe head with side flanges and stop ridge which would have been fused together to form a pockets on both sides of the axe. This meant that the axe would not slip or be pushed back, as was held firmly in place in the haft. It has a raised central rib to face and a splayed cutting edge.

Slightly chipped blade, with some green surface deposits and collectors stickers to one side. Collection ticket included.

Provenance: Found near East Knoyle, Wiltshire, From the estate of a collector. Ex Salisbury Auction.
