Bronze Age Bronze Palstave Axe. Fine Patina

Item Description

C. 1500-1100 BC

A bronze age unlooped palstave axe with a triangular blade and an expanded curved cutting edge. It has a square butt with deep pockets. The side flanges and stop ridge were fused together to form a pocket on both sides of the axe. This meant that the axe was now held firmly in place in the haft and would not slip.

An excellent example with a smooth brown patina.

Provenance: Found at Haddenham and recorded with PAS.
