Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp Decorated With Crescent of Luna & Maker’s Mark
Item Description
C. 2nd-3rd century AD
A nice example of a Roman oil lamp depicting the crescent of Luna, (the goddess of the moon), with six incised stars around. It has a ribbed handle and maker’s mark to back reads: “SΛT”.
Slightly chipped glaze otherwise in good condition with good clear detail.

Provenance: Ex Oxford Gentleman Collection, collected in the 80’s-90’s.
