Informal name of the fossil: Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus were among the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs, first discovered in Egypt by Ernst Stromer over 100 years ago. The remains were moved to a museum in Munich but unfortunately were destroyed in April 1944 during World War Two. These dinosaurs  lived a near aquatic existence, weighing 13–22 tons tons and 15-18 metres in size. Spinosaurus, were longer and heavier than Tyrannosaurus and were known as “spined reptile,” was named for its “sail back” feature, which was created by long vertebral spines.
